Water Retention

'Water retention', also known as 'fluid retention', is the excessive build up of fluid/water in our body cavities, body tissues or circulatory system.

Up to 70% of our body is water--muscles are made up of approx. 75% water; fat consists of about 50% water; and bones are made up of about 50% water.

Water exists both outside and inside our cells. Blood is most made up of water.

Extra water retention causes dangerous effects on the body. It is caused by certain conditions that include protein deficiency, liver cirrhosis, kidney failure, heart failure, premenstrual syndrome, physical inactivity, medications, sodium-rich foods, thyroid problems, allergies, bad unhealthy diet, malnutrition.
